Campus Montréal: A $500-million Target

September 13, 2013, 2:46pm

Since being launched, the aim of the Campus Montréal campaign has been to support promising initiatives that will lead to the design and development of innovative solutions for complex issues, to provide the conditions conducive to creating and transferring knowledge, and to raise the profile of the community by forging creative and productive partnerships. To carry out this major undertaking, Campus Montréal established a fundraising goal of $500 million.

Donations will not be used to cover the universities’ operating expenses. They will be used to provide researchers and students greater flexibility to expand the scope and reach of their work. The philanthropist thus becomes a social investor; the donor a visionary. Every dollar becomes a lever, every investment a catalyst, and every pledge a springboard.

The $500 million will be allocated to four fields of application: excellence and recruitment scholarships, research, facilities, and the living environment.

Scholarships to recruit and retain top students and faculty

Investing in Campus Montréal today will ensure it can prepare and nurture the innovators and entrepreneurs of tomorrow to confront the global challenges of the present and the future. A share of the funds raised will be distributed as scholarships to recruit and retain the best and the brightest from around the world. Together, this intellectual force will work towards finding solutions to complex domestic and global problems.

Driving innovation and breakthroughs

Home to one quarter of all university students in Quebec, the campus is the leading research centre in the province and the fourth in the country. To encourage innovation and achieve breakthroughs, the Campus Montréal campaign will focus on five areas of excellence in which we already excel: health care and specialized medicine, advanced science and technology, energy and sustainable development, internationalization and pluralism, creativity and entrepreneurship.

By bringing top researchers together, we are preparing the ground for future research and development, and training the next generation of men and women who will play a key role in shaping societies here and elsewhere.

Modern facilities and a stimulating student environment

A state-of-the-art environment for research is a key “pull” factor that naturally attracts gifted students and leading researchers. Creating new study and research facilities to mee the latest requirements will promote education, the sharing of knowledge, innovation and breakthroughs. A lively and vibrant campus becomes a gathering and meeting place for the entire community.

Real benefits for the real world

Campus Montréal excellence and recruitment scholarships, a Centre for Excellence in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, an Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, chairs in health, an MBA in Technology Management, and a virtual library are just some of the projects that will be implemented thanks to Campus Montréal.

If we were all to give towards a common goal worthy of our highest ambitions, imagine what we could accomplish for the world!
