Last October, Rosalind and Morris Goodman, members of the Campus Montréal honorary committee and benefactors of the Université de Montréal Faculty of Pharmacy, made a ten-day trip to Israel with rector Guy Breton and a delegation of UdeM academics. The mission was organized in cooperation with the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) whose associate director, Myriam Azogui-Halbwax, was also part of the delegation.
Smarter giving!
By joining the delegation, Mr and Mrs Goodman are paving the way for what I consider to be a new philanthropy, in which donors promote the initiatives they are funding by participating in a mission. The culture of philanthropy is changing. Donors’ involvement increases when they participate in the causes they support.
I am happy to observe that present-day philanthropy is more outward looking. For this mission to Israel, the philanthropists joined forces with one of our institutions, its researchers and community organizations to learn how to do things differently. By pooling their strengths to increase and share their knowledge, they were able to forge closer ties with their Israeli counterparts.
It was a mission that perfectly reflects the Campus Montréal brand identity: Talents with a global reach.
