Fondation Campus Montréal sous l’égide de la Fondation de France launched in Europe

June 21, 2014

Montreal, June 21, 2014Fondation Campus Montréal sous l’égide de la Fondation de France (Campus Montréal Foundation under the auspices of Fondation de France) has been launched to enable the institutions that comprise Campus Montréal to receive charitable donations while providing a tax deduction to donors who live in France.

In addition, through the partnerships that exist between Fondation de France and foundations elsewhere in Europe, donors residing in a number of European countries will be able to contribute to Fondation Campus Montréal sous l’égide de la Fondation de France and be eligible for a tax deduction in their country of residence. This means that graduates living in Europe can now donate to their alma mater to support scholarships, research chairs and other academic initiatives – and receive recognition and an expression of thanks from the university community.

A foundation established by a generous donor

Fondation Campus Montréal sous l’égide de la Fondation de France has been made possible through an exceptional philanthropic gesture made by Pierre Dufour, a graduate of Polytechnique Montréal and Senior Executive Vice-President of Air Liquide in Europe.

During an interview conducted with Mr. Dufour at Polytechnique Montréal, this outstanding Campus Montréal ambassador explained his motivation: “Because I now live in Germany, I became involved primarily to facilitate the creation of a foundation in Europe through which alumni living there could donate to Campus Montréal. I believe it is very important for graduates, regardless of where they live in the world, to maintain a connection to their alma mater. I view this contribution by alumni as essential.”

Official announcement made at Nuit Boréale event

Fondation Campus Montréal sous l’égide de la Fondation de France was officially announced by the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Ambassador of Canada to France, as part of the Nuit Boréale event in Paris. This festive annual activity, which brings together the business and cultural communities, enables visitors to learn about and experience the broad creative spectrum of Canadian artists, institutions and businesses. It therefore offered a unique opportunity to formally introduce the Foundation to the alumni community in Europe. The launch was also a perfect example of the spirit of productive collaboration that has long flourished between France and Canada.

A number of well-known figures were on hand at the event, including Christine St-Pierre, Quebec’s Minister of International Relations and the Francophonie, and Robert Panet-Raymond, proud graduate of Polytechnique Montréal and a model of engagement for the institutions represented by Campus Montréal. In fact, Mr. Panet-Raymond will this year become the largest individual donor in the history of the Carabins.

About Fondation Campus Montréal sous l’égide de la Fondation de France

Ranked among the world’s top ten university cities, Montreal is the leading knowledge cluster in the international Francophonie community, both in terms of student population and the diversity of its faculties, schools, disciplines and programs. Campus Montréal is made up of HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal and Université de Montréal and represents the largest proportion of international students in the Greater Montreal Region.

Decidedly success-oriented, the three institutions build on their synergy and propel their growth through the joint Campus Montréal initiative. In 2014, to support this vision, alumni living in Europe – a highly dynamic network of some 350,000 Campus graduates – launched Fondation Campus Montréal sous l’égide de la Fondation de France.

In the future, donors in France and other European countries who give to the Campus Montréal Foundation will help provide renewed impetus to their alma mater while being eligible for tax deductions. Through their support of scholarships, research chairs and other academic projects, the philanthropists will receive an expression of recognition from the entire university community.
